About Mary

Why choose a registered dietitian?

I'm Mary — a registered dietitian, yoga teacher, and mindfulness practitioner. I bring together clinical expertise, a strong medical background, and a genuine belief that lasting health starts with understanding yourself, not following rules.

I work with UK clients online, and offer private yoga sessions online. I'm available evenings and weekends to fit around working life.

Mary Brant, Registered Dietitian and Yoga Teacher

What makes a dietitian different

The title "Dietitian" is legally protected in the UK. Anyone can call themselves a nutritionist — but only HCPC-registered dietitians have met rigorous academic and clinical standards and are held professionally accountable.

🎓

Degree-level clinical training

Dietitians complete an accredited degree covering physiology, biochemistry, clinical medicine, and evidence-based nutrition — not a short course or online certification.

🏥

HCPC regulated & accountable

I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). I must meet strict standards of practice and ethics, and I can be struck off for poor practice. Your safety is protected by law.

🔬

Evidence-based, always

My recommendations are grounded in current scientific research and clinical guidelines. No fad diets, no miracle cures — just what the evidence actually shows, made practical for your life.

🩺

Medical background

Before dietetics, I completed three years of medical training and a BSc in Medical Sciences. This gives me a depth of clinical understanding that shapes how I assess and support complex health needs.

🧘

Whole-person approach

As a qualified yoga teacher trained in Nepal, I understand how stress, movement, and mental wellbeing shape eating behaviour. I can offer integrated support that goes beyond a meal plan.

💬

No judgement, ever

My practice is rooted in behaviour change science and compassion. I work with your life as it is — not an idealised version. Progress, not perfection, is always the goal.

Qualifications & experience

I started out studying medicine at the University of East Anglia, where I graduated with a BSc in Medical Sciences (hons) — giving me a strong grounding in physiology, pathology, and clinical thinking. Alongside my studies, I worked for three years as an NHS healthcare assistant, supporting patients directly on wards and developing a deep respect for the human side of healthcare.

I then went on to complete an MSc in Nutrition and Dietetics (hons) at the University of Chester, where I qualified as a registered dietitian. During my clinical placements I gained hands-on experience in gastroenterology wards and outpatient clinics, as well as managing nutrition support including tube feeding, and working with patients with chronic liver disease and complex wound healing needs.

I am registered with the HCPC as a dietitian from July 2026, when I begin my role as an NHS community dietitian. My private practice focuses on gut health and digestive conditions — the area I am most passionate about and most clinically trained in.

I am also a member of the BDA Gastroenterology Specialist Group and the BDA Sustainable Diets Specialist Group, and have completed additional BDA-accredited training in Behaviour Change and the Low FODMAP Diet.

I am fluent in English and Spanish.

A yoga teacher first

Before I became a dietitian, I was a yoga teacher — and I still am. I completed my 200-hour hatha and vinyasa yoga teacher training at the Mandala Yoga Retreat in Kathmandu, Nepal. I am a regular Ashtanga yoga and meditation practitioner, and during my MSc I founded and led a free Mindfulness Society for students at the University of Chester.

I offer private yoga and mindfulness sessions online. Studio classes are coming soon — follow me on Instagram for updates.

Nourish the whole person

Food is so much more than fuel. It is culture, comfort, pleasure, and memory. I believe that lasting change happens when we work with all of that — not against it.

My approach is person-centred and grounded in behaviour change science. I listen first, understand your life and your goals, and build a plan that feels realistic — not something you will abandon after two weeks.

I am also passionate about the relationship between food and the environment. I am a member of the BDA Sustainable Diets Specialist Group and am happy to explore this alongside your health goals if it matters to you — though it is never mandatory, and I respect all food choices.

What shapes how I work

My values outside the clinic directly inform how I practise — with an emphasis on practicality, flexibility, and approaches that fit real life.

🌿

Time outdoors & movement

I value time in nature and regular movement — not as performance, but as part of a sustainable, enjoyable lifestyle. This shapes how I talk about physical activity with clients.

🌍

Sustainability & food systems

I volunteer on organic farms and have completed the 'Future Food: Sustainable Food Systems for the 21st Century' course. A member of the BDA Sustainable Diets Specialist Group.

🗣️

Bilingual practice

I am fluent in English and Spanish, and am happy to offer consultations in either language. Please mention this when you get in touch.
